Job Description

The Fuel Accounting Manager is responsible for all the business and accounting functions involved within the Fuel Accounting Department.  Responsibilities include managing the purchasing, selling, and analyzing of all fuel transactions, including wholesale and terminal accounting.  This position is the process owner for SAP IS-Oil fuel functionality, which includes the MM, SD and FI modules along with the invoice EDI process.  The Manager will be expected to develop and implement changes and improvements to existing policy, procedures and internal controls to improve TA’s fuel accounting process.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Oversee all fuel related accounting functions to ensure all transactions are being properly recorded within the general ledger.
  2. Work with the sites, Fuel Supply and TA headquarters to develop and maintain proper accounting policies and procedures.
  3. Ensure monthly closing process, including journal entries, account reconciliations and management reporting are completed timely.
  4. Assist senior management with the review and explanation of fuel margins and margin reports.
  5. Responsible for maintaining compliance with Sarbanes Oxley by writing, reviewing and participating in the audit of SOX narratives (OTC–Fuel Narrative, OTC Fuel Customer Rebates and Discounts, PTP–Fuel Purchases, Inventory Costing–Fuel, and Physical Inventory–Fuel) as well as ensuring that the fuel department is following approved procedures.
  6. Assist RMR with the yearly financial audit by ensuring that all requested data is provided timely
  7. Assist the Systems department with the development, testing and implementation of new programs and upgrades in SAP for the fuel process.
  8. Other special projects and analysis as needed.


  1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting required with a Master’s degree and/or CPA Certification preferred.
  2. 8+ years of accounting experience desired (minimum 5 years with SAP – FI, MM & SD).
  3. 5+ years of supervisory experience required.
  4. Previous industry experience preferred.
  5. Effective oral and written communication skills
  6. Excellent skills with SAP, Microsoft Excel, Word and Access
  7. Experience with SAP configuration in FI, MM and SD modules preferred
  8. Ability to work under pressure and motivate others
  9. Ability to identify procedural and internal control weaknesses, and suggest and implement solutions
  10. Proven capability in understanding and designing data processing solutions

Physical Requirements

Requires extensive sitting, viewing and utilizing computer equipment, keyboarding, listening and speaking with telephone equipment, walking, and occasionally lifting 10-40 lbs
